The Triathlon Centre are pleased to be sponsoring Spalding Triathlon Club’s Spalding Triathlon on 10th June 2012.
After a 5 year sabatical, the Spalding Triathlon is back! The extremely flat course offers the potential for extremely fast times. The event is open to anybody, whether you are a complete novice wanting to do your first event, a seasoned triathlete, or why not enter as a relay team and compete with your friends, family or colleagues?
The event begins with a 400m pool based swim in the Castle Sports Complex pool, before heading out on a pancake flat 1 lap 18.76km bike course. You then finish with a spectator friendly 4.6km run to the finish line. There will be chip timing to ensure speedy and accurate times with your results shown as you cross the finish line. The cycle course can be viewed here. There will be prizes for all age group winners and every competitor will receive a goody bag which will include a t-shirt and other goodies!

JULY 2012
FENGATE 2012 SPORTIVE – SUNDAY JULY 29th
With more and more people discovering the benefits of cycling, the popularity of cyclo-sportive events has grown rapidly over the last 10 years. An electronic chip that attaches to your helmet will record your time when you break the beam under the start/finish arch. However, unlike a cycle race, a cyclo-sportive event is a non-competitive event with the emphasis firmly fixed on enjoyment without the pressure or expense of competition. In fact, the only competition you’ll face is yourself – if you’re looking to improve your fitness, smash a few personal bests or simply enjoy the thrill of riding with other cyclists, then a cyclo-sportive is the perfect event for you.
Roofless events will be holding their first sportive in 2012 on 29th July, starting and finishing outside GreenWheel Cycles. The event will have three routes to cater for every type of rider, regardless of experience, fitness and equipment. The shortest route will be between 35-45 miles – known as the ‘fun’ route through the countryside should be exactly that and, for those new to cycling or perhaps taking part on a mountain bike or commuter bike, this is an ideal introduction that still provides enough of a challenge to get those endorphins flowing through your system! One feed station will be provided en route.
The medium or ‘standard’ route as it’s more commonly known will be between 65-75 miles. While we’ve seen some rugged types on mountain bikes grind their way through this distance, ideally you’ll ride a road bike with skinny 700c wheels and have been out on a few rides already. With two feed stations on this route, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to hydrate and take on food.
The long or ‘epic’ route sees the magic 100-mile mark smashed into pieces! Typically between 102-112 miles, this route provides the toughest challenge for regular road cyclists that have been training towards big distances. With three feed stations along the route to ensure sufficient hydration and sustenance even on the hottest of summer days, completing this will be, well… epic!
At the end of your ride Roofless Events will make sure that you’re not only rewarded with a tasty High 5 recovery drink to replenish those tired and aching muscles but also hydrated and fed with a tasty portion of carbs from our pasta tent. Just hand in your riding number and a member of staff will make sure you don’t go without!
